About Town

Vadgaon is a census town within administrative division of the Pune district.
•
Vadgaon is a Nagar Panchayat established in 3 February, 2018 after adding Katvi
Town, in Maval Taluka, Pune district of Western region of Maharashtra state.
Being a self-contained Nagar Panchayat, Vadgaon is the headquarters for
administration of Katvi town and is headed by a Nagaradhasha elected
representative.

It lies at a distance of 36.3 Km away from the district headquarter Pune.
Geographically, it is located at 18°74’86”N Latitude and 73°64’1"E
Longitude.

The town has one natural stream named Indrayani river it flows east from there
to meet the Bhima river, through the Hindu pilgrimage centres of Dehu and
Alandi.

There is the historical background to Vadgaon which is “Battle of Vadgaon”. In
the First AngloMaratha War, Vadgaon was the site of the “Battle of Vadgaon” in
which the Maratha Empire inflicted a defeat on the East India Company and of a
treaty in which the British made considerable concessions.

Vadgaon is famous for Shree Potoba Maharaj Temple and Shrimant Shrimant
Mahadaji Shinde Garden. Shree Potoba Maharaj is the deity of the town and Shree
Potoba Maharaj festival is celebrated in the town every year. Recently, this
pilgrimage place accorded as C-Class Pilgrimage status.

The main language spoken in Vadgaon is Marathi.
•
The town is located along the old Mumbai-Pune Express way(NH48), which is a
four-lane tolled highway that improves the connectivity of this town in better
way.
